It’s fireworks every time.
In Chinese, Gunpowder tea is called zhū chá – “pearl tea”. With its leaves rolled into pellets, it is probably the most famous Chinese green tea.The origin of today’s name “Gunpowder” is not very clear: on the one hand, the dark balls look a little like gunpowder. In addition, when immersed in hot water, they “explode” as the leaf unfolds.
It is also possible that the English name “Gunpowder” comes from the Mandarin-Chinese term for “freshly brewed” – “gāng pào de” –, which sounds like “gunpowder”.
You would be amiss not to experience this taste explosion for yourself – try it!
